Dr. Chris Hansen currently serves as the Assistant Commissioner of Community Supervision for the State of Tennessee, where he oversees more than 1,100 probation and parole officers, managers, and administrators. He brings over four decades of experience in law enforcement and community corrections to his role, including extensive leadership at the local, state, and federal levels. Before joining Tennessee, Dr. Hansen served as Chief Probation Officer for Solano County, California from 2012 until his retirement in 2023. Prior to that, he spent 23 years with the Federal Probation System—nine of those as Chief Probation Officer for the District of Nevada. His early career began in the State of Florida, where he served both as a probation officer and police officer. Dr. Hansen has worked internationally promoting evidence-based practices in community supervision and has produced educational content focused on critical incidents and officer resiliency—topics especially relevant to law enforcement leadership. He has been an adjunct professor at Saint Leo University since 2006 and holds a Doctorate in Education with a concentration in criminal justice, as well as a master’s degree in criminology.
