• Every police leader is faced with projects. Some small, such as reducing violent crime in the North East sector, and some as complex as creating new units/divisions or overseeing agency wide initiatives. In today's current socio-political environment, police leaders must be transformative, agile, and practice keen critical thinking when undertaking and overseeing projects.
• In this session we will discuss the fact that the rules of project management are the same, regardless of the size and criticality of the project.
• We will examine the buy-in, community and internal, as well as the political ramifications of all police initiatives. Yes, properly "playing politics" is a necessary ingredient!
• We will perform a deep dive into the legality and ethical considerations of projects and how the public may perceive our intentions.
• Funding sources, outside of the police/government budget will be offered and analyzed as every project comes with a budgetary impact.
• Critical analysis of projects that have miserably failed will be presented for discussion.
• We will also evaluate the process of measuring return on investment (ROI) and the methodology for measuring success.
